FINAL PRESS REPORT

  • Asia Pacific will lead in plastic and rubber processing by 2010 ahead of American and Europe
  • Exhibitors see a growing demand for high quality plastics in the electrical & electronics, automotive, medical and houseware sectors

The 2008 instalment of ASEANPLAS, a project by the ASEAN Federation of Plastic Industries and hosted by the Singapore Plastic Industry Association, attracted 317 exhibiting companies from 28 countries and economies including national pavilions and groups from Austria, Germany, India, Italy, Singapore and Taiwan.

The trade fair was opened by Mr Ted Tan, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of International Enterprise Singapore on 26 May 2008.  Welcome addresses at the Opening Ceremony were given by Mr Erhard Wienkamp, Chairman of the Board of Messe Duesseldorf Asia; Mr Ronald Lim, President of the Singapore Plastic Industry Association; Mr Thorsten Kuehmann, Secretary-General of EUROMAP and Ms Mary G Ng, Chairman of the ASEAN Federation of Plastic Industries.

Countdown to ASEANPLAS

Underscoring its role as the key industry event for the plastics and rubber industries of Southeast Asia, ASEANPLAS incorporating ASEANRUBBER 2008, has attracted a strong showing of some 300 exhibiting companies hailing from more than 25 countries and economies to its latest edition opening in Singapore on May 26.  National pavilions and association groups from Austria, Germany, India, Italy, Singapore and Taiwan will also be present. 

ASEANPLAS will be opened by guest-of-honour Mr Ted Tan, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of International Enterprise Singapore. Addresses will also be given at the May 26 opening ceremony by Mr Erhard Wienkamp, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Messe Düsseldorf Asia, Mr Ronald Lim, President, Singapore Plastic Industry Association (SPIA), Mr Thorsten Kühmann, Secretary General, EUROMAP, and Ms Mary G. Ng, Chairman, ASEAN Federation of Plastic Industries (AFPI).

Wealth of New Product Introductions Planned at ASEANPLAS

ASEANPLAS incorporating ASEANRUBBER 2008, Southeast Asia’s largest and most dedicated platform for plastics and rubber, will open its doors on May 26 to the region’s processors with scores of new and improved products and solutions set for debut in the Southeast Asian region.

Motan, for example, will showcase its MINOCOLOR G compact gravimetric dosing/blending unit for the addition of masterbatch/additive in granular form. The unit is suitable for use on injection moulding/blow moulding machines and extruders. The speed of the dosing screw is continuously monitored and automatically adjusted to the dosing throughput resulting in maximum repeatability. Furthermore, calibration is carried out automatically with the MINICOLOR G, whereas manual calibration is necessary with volumetric units.

More Cutting-Edge Technology Highlights for ASEANPLAS

ASEANPLAS incorporating ASEANRUBBER 2008, Southeast Asia’s leading international trade fair for plastics and rubber, is shaping up to be a hotbed of technological innovations and solutions for plastics processing. Of particular note is the wide range of materials to be introduced at ASEANPLAS.

Asahi Kasei Plastics Singapore (APS), for example, manufactures highly heat-resistant XYRON mPPE resin in Singapore for applications ranging from E&E to automotive and industrial. The company also markets TENAC POM and LEONA PA66 and all of these products will be featured at ASEANPLAS.

Moreover, injection machine supplier Nissei will bring more than just its second-generation hybrid type injection moulding machines equipped with the X-pump system, which combines the merits of both electric and hydraulic machines. The company will also showcase its VOLTIGA carbon nanotube composite materials.

Plastics Technology Showcase Returns to ASEANPLAS with Cutting Edge Technologies for Key Markets

ASEANPLAS incorporating ASEANRUBBER 2008, Southeast Asia’s leading international trade fair for plastics and rubber, will be staged at the Singapore Expo from 26 to 29 May 2008 with an added bonus once again in store for trade visitors and exhibitors. The ASEAN Plastics Technology Showcase returns to ASEANPLAS and will draw on input from research institutes as well as private sector technology vendors and plastics processors to highlight enabling solutions and business opportunities in selected market segments of particular relevance to the plastics processing sectors in Singapore and the rest of the ASEAN region. The market segments set to be spotlighted are Eco-technologies, Photonics / Optics, Automotive, Plastic Electronics, Alternative Processes and Coating Technologies.

Eco-technologies, encompassing biodegradable plastics and non-biodegradable plastics based on renewable resources, energy saving processing technologies such as all-electric and hybrid injection moulding machines and plastic recycling technologies, represent a promising area for ASEAN processors given the increased global environmental awareness as well as increasingly stringent environmental regulations.
